Kirin Seafood Restaurant is one of the oldest high-quality Cantonese Seafood Restaurant in Vancouver. They have been around for a least 20 years. During this time, Kirin continued to adopt new recipe and never downgrades their food quality for a higher profit margin. That is respectable. This Kirin Seafood Restaurant is located on Cambie and West 12th Avenue in Vancouver, on the 3rd floor of City Square.
It is quite ironic to name the restaurant "Happy Tree". I'd be pretty pissed if I were the trees. Happy Tree House BBQ make very good lamb skewers. Unfortunately, everything else is pure trash. The interior of the space is very noisy, you cannot hear what your friends are saying. The service is not very good, all the staff wants to do is get you to finish so they can serve the next round of customers. Even with these issues, I still see a lot of customers lining up. I cannot justify the $46 per person price point. Not recommended due to high price, bad food, bad atmosphere, and bad service.
After standing under the harsh sun for some time. It is a pleasant feeling to finally get into the store. Even though there is still a small line up, Rocky Point Ice Cream has hired enough staff to make the line move quickly. we can see the display of waffle cone options. The staff remained friendly under pressure of the long line and remembers my request with ease. I ordered Earl Gray with Honey flavour. The taste of honey is not very noticeable. Eating this ice cream feels like drinking bubble tea. I really like it. I asked for the cone to be put in a cup because the weather was really hot outside. The staff was very nice to do this for all of my orders.
This plate of beautifully presented pulled pork benny is plate-licking good. Everything on this dish is delightful. The hash brown is the best I have ever had. It's fresh out of the fryer. The crunchy exterior that is not too hard to cut my mouth. The interior is so soft that it almost melts in your mouth. It is also perfectly seasoned. I already said the hashbrowns are the best I've had, but this pulled pork benny is also the best I've had. Seriously, I took a bite and can not stop myself from eating it. The pulled pork, coleslaw, and hollandaise sauce are in perfect harmony. Using cornbread as the base is genius. The cornbread crumbles to the touch, not lingering like English muffins. This takes away the frustrating part of eating benny away for me. The bottom is brown with a slight crisp. The texture variation makes this more enjoyable. The two eggs on top are perfectly poached.
Grand Dynasty Seafood Restaurant is considered a mid-level Dimsum place. The cost is $20 per person price point used to be really worth it when they spend the time to take care of their food quality. This is no longer the case. Dim Sum is considered Southern Chinese cuisine, and they should be delicate. Yes, there are cheap and large dim sum places in town, but you don't get to charge a high price and give low quality food. There are even insects flying around my food when I was eating. Not worth it, not recommended.
Just a sneak peak of what's inside. Whenever there's chicken, we can see a lump from the outside. Cheese has been fully melted. Chicken can be a bit dry. Moii Cafe has changed its serving plate from porcelain to composite wood. Although the wooden plate is flat, I think this is a good business decision. The hot crepe naturally sticks to the bottom. Their knife is not super sharp. I guess the porcelain plate and knife created too much squeaking sound. This shows the store manager paid attention to finer details in the store.
Daily Delicious' sea salt bread is very buttery. The bread is sturdy to the bite. The exterior of the bread takes a bit of effort to break off. This bread is nothing like those unnatural puffy baked goods you buy from most Cantonese bakery. Internal air pockets indicates the bread is baked with added grease (probably butter) before mixing, then butter is rolled into the bread before baking. There is sea salt to give slight bursts of flavor when you find one. The bottom of the sea salt bread is brown and crisp from butter. These are the highlights of this bread.
Li's China Grill is not as good as before. The decrease in food quality is very apparent. The price is still pretty high though. Our bill comes to $30 per person and we did not order a lot of food. Taste-wise, this is still an okay BBQ skewer place. Having Happy Tree House BBQ and Kuan Zhai Road Restaurant in close proximity, Li's China Grill has an uphill battle ahead of them. Not recommended, there must be better BBQ skewers place somewhere else.
Ba Le's #5 special sandwich is my favorite sandwich. I guess the memory goes back to the first time I've had it. When it took me by surprise of what a sandwich can be. I'll tell you, "Subway" is nothing compared to this. #5 Special Sandwich is pretty much the same as the #3 Cold Cut Sandwich. Except #5 Special have a lot more meat. You can find Vietnamese sausage, Ham, Pate, Home made mayonnaise, Pickled daikon radish and carrots, Cilantro and Cucumber. The sandwich is cut in the middle for easier consumption. It is not completely cut. Which gave me a satisfying feeling when taking them apart. The exterior of the bread is hard, feels solid. I could hear the bread crumble when pulling on them.
