Good Sushi on Fraser: 5-Star Service, 3-Star Sushi, No Street Parking

The red awning is the easy part. Finding a parking spot on this block is not.

Good Sushi sits on Fraser between places people already drive for: Bonjour Vietnam Bistro (Michelin Guide, 3944 Fraser), Goldie’s Donut & Bakery (3932), Bâtard Boulangerie & Café Moderne (3958), and Earnest Ice Cream (3992). Street parking gets eaten by those lines. If you come at lunch or early evening, give yourself extra time, or don’t count on a spot out front.

The room

Inside, the room is bigger than the storefront. Black-and-white tile, wood tables, a counter, string lights. Casual and comfortable. Atmosphere is 4 stars for me. Not a date-night room, but easy to sit in.

What I ate

This is a Korean-operated Japanese restaurant, and they also sell kimbap. What showed up on my table were big rolls, not delicate ones.

A scallop roll and a California roll came rice-outside, piled high, with sesame, wasabi, and ginger. The Good Roll was salmon buried under a nest of fried shredded yam and sauce. Portions are large. Price felt okay for the amount of food.

Taste is the honest middle. Rice was fine. Fish was fine. Nothing was off, and nothing made me put the chopsticks down and stare. Food is 3 stars: passable, filling, not the reason to cross town.

Service

Service is the reason I’d come back if I were already on Fraser. Staff were attentive without hovering, and the room felt looked after. Service is 5 stars.
