Fatburger American fast-food restaurant franchise in Vancouver
My burger was tightly wrapped in paper which caused the un-wrapped portion to open up and look extremely hard to bite. The beef felt weighty and was very satisfying to bite into. Onion and pickle provided the crispy texture. I really enjoyed this burger, but with a little bit of guilt as I see oil dripping off the wrapping. The entire burger held together quite nicely. Not much mess was made from inhaling this burger.

Fatburger is a fast food joint from the states. They boldly claim to be “The Last Great Hamburger Stand”. Their food is pretty good, but I’m not sure if I entirely agree with this statement. Some of the Fatburger locations serve alcohol. They can be seen as on par with The Red Robins, but other locations seem more like a glorified version of fast food. The Fatburger location I have visited was on Broadway and Alberta Street in Vancouver.

Weakness: Slower than fast food, Pricy, Combo cost $5 extra

Fatburger Signage Out front
The Fatburger on West Broadway is located on a corner, you can see the large signage featuring their burger, wings, milkshake, and chicken tender. These are actually some of my favorite items in a burger joint.
Fatburger has its own building
This Fatburger is located in its own building. The main color is red and yellow which is quite similar to McDonald’s. The building has a lot of windows, the entire facade facing West looks like their storefront.
Front counter
Fatburger’s front counter is about 5 feet away from the entry door. I arrived with a lineup just a little out the door. Staff was full of energy in yelling out the order. They have a systematic approach in asking the same set of questions to each customer.
Customizer your burger
The first decision is to decide the burger base. I ordered original fatburger to see how the basic taste. She asked me if I want cheese, and what kind. then asked if I want everything on my burger. Eventually the combo. I did not realize cheese cost $1.29, and combo pushed my meal cost to $15.29 plus tips.
Narrow corridor with window seats
There is a long narrow corridor with lots of window facing seats. These tables are about 18 inches deep, which made space tight. I thinkt he outdoor patio seating seems like a better place to enjoy my food. The wooden trellis looking thing above the ordering counter made me feel like I’m ordering from an informal food establishment. You can find the fountain drink machine off to the side. All soft drinks here are refillable.
Napkin station and condiment basket
Every couple of seats, there will be one of these setup on the table. You can find many types of condiments like hot sauce or vinegar, but there is no ketchup. I was given a number sign with large font so the staff can deliver the food to me.
Poorly designed table post and chair
The table post and chair are fixed to the ground. I find this a very poorly designed. Given the fixed seat, my thigh was right against the table post unless I spread my legs wide.
Small TV few chairs apart
This is an interesting way to entertain the guest. Behind these TV are the parking lot outside.
Original Fatburger combo
The staff brought my combo to me. It looks like a decent size. The burger looks small, but they are quite thick with 1/3 lb of beef pattie.
Deep tray kept everything together
My combo was served in a deep circular tray. It holds my food inside very nicely. They didn’t have to worry about fries rolling off during food delivery.

Large portioned fries
Fries were served just out of the deep fryer. They are very crispy on the outside. It has a very large portion for $3.49. It was a pleasant surprise to pull out an 8” long one. If the burger didn’t fill you up then the fries definitely will.
Ketchup was generously given
Not seeing ketchup in the condiment basket made me worried a little. So I was quite happy to see this generous ketchup tray. I mean, it is an expensive hamburger meal so this is the least they can do. It’s expected, but I’m still thrilled to not have to ask the staff for more ketchup.
604 Food Critic Assessment
Overall, Fatburger serves pretty solid burgers. I think their score should depend on how we categorize them. As a fast-food restaurant, they are slower for the made-to-order burger, and are quite expensive. As a restaurant, the serving speed is fast. The food quality doesn’t fair well to gourmet burgers, but with a similar price point. I would recommend anyone to give Fatburger at least a try. The $15 per combo price point is a little high. Personally, Fatburger is a place for me to get a good burger when I don’t have a lot of time to sit down in a restaurant.
