Summary

We were at the Emma Lea Farms for some Strawberry U-Pick action this weekend. It was fun for adults and children. Afterward, we went to the “ice cream shoppe” for some ice cream with real fruit topping. The sun wasn’t too harsh and there was a soft breeze to cool us down, it was a perfect Summar day.

Emma Lea Farms is located in 2727 Westham Island Rd, Delta, approximately 30 minutes drive to the heart of Vancouver. Although not entirely organic, they have adopted farming methods with minimal use of pesticides only when absolutely necessary. This is important for us because the crevice of berries make dirt and pesticide very hard to wash.

Always plan your trip to the farm

We got to the farm at 2:30, and the parking lot was almost full. There are plenty of parking, but early afternoon seems like a popular time for visitors to come after lunch.

New food truck on site

We have been coming to Emma Lea Farm for two years, and this year we see a new food truck here to serve Indian cuisine.

Expect the bottom of your pants and your shoes to be dirty afterward

Make sure you dress accordingly with proper shading devices. You will be exposed to the sun with no trees around. The dirt roads are dry during summer. Dust gets lifted just by walking. Leave your expensive heels and sandals at home. This is a farm.

Emma Lea Farm’s berries are sweet and flavourful

Supermarket bought strawberries that are mass produced. They are large, plump, and tasteless. Emma Lea Farm’s strawberries are smaller and softer. They are unfortunately easier to bruise, but the flavor explode in your mouth makes them worth it. Flat containers are preferable here. The bottom strawberries in deep containers are usually squished when you bring it home.

The farm also sell other produce

Such as cherry and other berries

Raspberry Blossom honey

Flower Bouquts

and many other fresh vegetables.

Children-friendly Family Fun

Emma Lea Farms is children friendly. There is a small donkey petting zoo and playground with a small sandbox.

The “Ice Cream Shoppe” always has line up.

To be honest, this is why I come to Emma Lea Farm. My wife comes here for the U-Pick. I endure the time in the farm so I can enjoy these delicious ice cream afterwards.

Because there is always line up for the ice cream, most visitors get their friends to line up for ice cream while they line up for U-Pick payment. This year, we see a farm worker taking orders while you wait in line. It’s a nice strategy to reduce wait time.

Here’s the menu

Emma Lea Farm provides shaded area for visitors to rest.

I got the small ice cream sundae with strawberry. The strawberry and raspberry are in season, so they are never frozen. There are blueberry topping, but they are frozen from last year. This year’s blueberries are not ripe yet.

This is the strawberry hard ice cream. I gotta tell you, these “hard ice cream” are fluffy and soft. They taste even softer than the soft serve ice cream that I ordered. You see that pink portion on top? I ate them all before giving the portion in the cone back to my wife.

Emma Lea Farms is an environmental conscious farm. They provide compostable clear straws and corn-based stir sticks. I’m not sure what type of “compostable plastic” they are. However, Emma Lea Farms should be able to achieve the desirable temperature and humidity for them to break down.
