Summary

Dog Eat Corndog is a food truck serving Korean style crunchy corndog. The owner uses his own secret recipe to make the dough and sauce which he calls “As good as it taste”. Dog Eat Corndog just recently opened in July 2020, but they have been in preparation for at least a year. The name is really eye-catching, and I have been wanting to come for the past few weeks. I was lucky enough to drive by them today, but later found out they can be tracked down using the StreetFoodApp.

Strength: Cake-like dough texture. Korean signature taste.

Weakness: Serving speed is slow due to low temperature cooking.

Other Food Trucks

Eye-Catching Yellow

The entire food truck takes the primary color of yellow so it stands out from the crowd. I noticed it the first instance I saw it from the opposite side of the street. The serving side has 2 simple menu and sauces. Customers order from the left side and pick up from the right.

Owner’s secret dough recipe

Right after I ordered, the owner of Dog Eat Corndog took out the hot dog and a bucket of his hand crafted dough mixture. He spins the hot dog and mozzarella cheese stick in the dough, while lifting it up and down to apply more dough on the stick. I can get a sense of the dough’s strength from the way he applies the dough as it creates gluten structure. It took a while for him to cook the corndog. I think it is because of the low temperature used. Once the corndog is cooked, Dog Eat Corndog’s owner gets rid of the excess oil by swinging the hot dog vertically above the deep fryer.

Dog Eat Corndog Crunchy Corndog (Original Korean Style) $3.99

I ordered the Crunchy Corndog with original flavour just to get a baseline of these corndogs. Dog Eat Corndog’s owner told me that sugar with ketchup is the most authentic way to enjoy Korean corndog. I have to say this is very beautifully presented. My first bite into the corndog revealed a very crispy outer shell with a very soft, cake-like interior dough. There is nothing special about the hot dog. It has a soft instead of tough texture, which goes very well with the dough. The original Korean style corndog is more sweet than sour. The ketchup is enhanced by the sugar coating. I would consider this corndog a dessert.

Dog Eat Corndog Mozza-Rella Crunchy Dog $4.99

Deep-fried mozzarella cheese stick is a popular Korean street food. I saw the Dog Eat Corndog owner took out a piece of frozen mozzarella on a wooden stick and start swirling in the batter before deep frying it. The mozzarella expanded when it was deep fried, resulting a fatter corndog. The owner warned me to be careful when biting into the mozzarella corndog. I asked for sugar and Chipotle Mayo dressing for extra kick. Texture-wise, the mozzarella corndog also has a crispy shell and cake-like batter. Inside, is the stringy mozzarella cheese. The entire corndog is sweet and cheesy.
