Macao Doulao All You Can Eat Personal Hotpot in Burnaby

I think Macao Doulao has pretty good all you can eat option if you are only looking for normal, non-extravagant ingredients. The price tag of $28.88 is a little misleading because you also have to add the $4.99 soup and $1.99 condiment access fee. The all you can eat option will cost $36 per person, minimum. This is very cheap considering the amount of meat we've had, but do know that the meat has lower quality.

Newly Opened Northern Chinese Style Hotpot in Richmond

Our visit to Beijing Hotpot cost us $47 per person after tax. It is expensive but it is also in line with most of the hotpot restaurants with similar quality. I like how wed on't need to pay extra to access a comprehensive condiment bar. The portion for both meat and veggies are larger than Dolar Shop. There is not much choice for the broth, but the excellent sauce made up for it. They really paid attention in the designing the detail to set the mood, and I have no problem recommending this hotpot restaurant.

Choo Tea trendy Chinese bubble tea franchise with questionable google review

Choo Tea offers specialty drinks at a premium price. When they didn't want to charge more to go above the norm, they reduced the quantity in drinks. I don't find their drinks refreshing. It feels more like a dessert that requires another drink on the side. The poor service and careless staff show Choo Tea lacks integrity. Worst of all, I do not appreciate their manipulating social media reviews.

The highest quality soy dessert in Richmond

Soy Talk is our new favorite soy dessert place in town. Differ from most soy dessert places where the soy pudding is cured using corn starch and gypsum powder (yes, the stuff in your wall), the ones served at Soy Talk are made using the traditional, healthier way. The soy milk also tastes at least 3 times thicker than the diluted ones. The cost of $9.50 for the signature dessert is fair for the food quality. We have no problem recommending Soy Talk to health conscious foodies.

Michele Cake Shop is the Best Bakery at Kerresdale

We purchased a small chestnut cake because they did not have the sliced versions. Our cake was beautifully layered with fruits and whipped cream. The extravagant chocolate decorations look like abstract art. We cut it open to reveal the layered sponge cake and chestnut filling. The sponge cake has good springy texture, and they are not dry at all. I enjoyed the chestnut filling because they are not too sweet. Most of the sweetness comes from whipped cream. The flavour profile is very balanced.

Pot House on West 41st

41 noodle & rice pot house is a no-frill Cantonese restaurant. Where they lack with non-glamorous decor, cheap tableware, and broken cups are picked up by authenticity, food quality and value. I had a very frustrating dining experience picking out sharp shattered chicken bones from the hardened charred rice, but the food was still very tasty. I would recommend this restaurant. Just don’t get the chicken.

Miss Fu In Chengdu Franchise New Sichuan tapas and skewers in Richmond

We are used to seeing most franchise coming from Asia to have long line up for the first few months. I have seen many of these franchise fail to retain customers after a year. However, I have really high hope for Miss Fu In Chengdu to continue their successful business. Their food is really delectable and well made. There are complex flavour underneath the spiciness so their spiciness are not monotonous. Their food has really high standard, comparable to the ones I have tried in Chengdu years ago. I highly recommend this place if you are up for spicy food, and I think they are going to be around for a while.

Weekend Tea, a bubble tea shop in Burnaby

Weekend Tea definitely used quality ingredients, but I think the cup is a little too small for the price they are charging. I have mixed feeling about this place and not sure if I should recommend it. Zang is a direct translation of "Dirty". It is to resemble the beautiful exterior marbling of the brown sugar pearl milk in the clear cup. The cup size is comparable to Xing Fu Tang, both are quite small. This one at Weekend Tea cost $6.50, one size only. The milk came shaken. There’s no precipitation of brown sugar syrup at the bottom. I also couldn’t experience the warm and soft pearls. The drink doesn’t taste too sweet compared to many other brown sugar drink from other tea shop. The taste is a little boring at the beginning. Towards the end, the saltiness starts to shine through to give this drink a layered flavour. For some reason, the rim of my cup have some brown sugar syrup. Maybe this is what they meant by "Dirty"? My finger kept getting dirty from touching the rim. I had to go get napkin twice.

Fortune Lamb Dining serves authentic Northern Chinese cuisine for $30 per person. Their food taste good but the food is expensive. This restaurant used to taste even better, but the quality of their food decreased as they got busy over the years. I would still recommend this restaurant, however I would be careful on what to order.
