Little bean tea station is a bubble tea place in the food court of Yaohan Centre on No. 3 Rd. and Cambie Rd. in Richmond. They have been around for at least 15 years. This used to be the place to get your $2.75, mediocre, simple cup of milk tea with pearl. Unfortunately, the food quality has gone downhill in recent years.
The over advertised store indicates their focus shift from simple drinks towards wheel pies (車輪餅), Taiwanese taro balls, sugar roasted chestnut, shaved ice, etc.
False advertisement on the signage
We ordered No. 2, Taro Mochi + Pearls + Red Bean. The pictures looked really nice. The colorful cylinders on the above pictures are what Taiwanese taro balls are supposed to look like. This is false advertisement.
Nothing taste (or look) right in this bowl
This is what the Taiwanese taro balls we got looks like. I can confidently say this over here is by far the worst Taiwanese Taro Balls I have ever tasted. The red bean soup tastes as it came straight from the red bean paste can. It’s extremely thick and sweet. I had to add a whole cup of water before I can start eating it.
The taro balls (top left in off-white color), as you can see, does not have any structure to it. It’s kind of glued together and taste really soggy. The best topping here is probably the pearls (floating on the right side). But even the pearls are overcooked. It does not have the chewiness as one would expect when eating pearls. It’s more like eating hard jelly.
604 Food Critic Assessment
Little Bean tea station used to be an okay place to get cheap drinks when you shop or eat at the Yaohan Centre food court. The drinks weren’t top notch, but the price made up for it. This is no longer the case. Steer clear unless you want to see what the worst Taiwanese taro balls taste like.
