Shiny Tea's quality is comparable to Hanlin Tea House, if not identical. The lower cost for the same tea comes without the wonderful interior decor Hanlin Tea House has. The price tag of $5.49 is cheaper than Hanlin, which makes Shiny Tea the perfect tea station for a quick grab and go.
For $10.90 per chicken breast cutlet, this large snack is going to fill you up. I was most impressed with the thickness and the juiciness of Monga Fried Chicken's chicken meat. It is one of the best deep-fried chicken cutlets Vancouver has to offer.
Samyang's Sutah Ramen is pretty cheap at $4.97 for a package of 5. That's only a little more expensive than $1 per package after tax. I like the texture of their noodle, which is clearly advertised on the packaging. The spicy flavour is good but the soup base is a little boring. I would recommend this ramen for people who enjoy the chewy texture of noodles. It's a luxury to be able to enjoy this at home. I would probably try to make my own soup base though.
To be honest, I don't know why Boiling Point has such a long line up. Sometimes, I just feel like going there especially when the weather gets cold. This establishment really gives me the feeling that they treat everything like an assembly line. The soup has lots of taste, and that's what Boiling Point is good at, but it's obvious they come from artificial flavouring. There is evidence showing the ingredients are not fresh, and everything is overcooked except the raw egg in the pot. Every hot pot is so packed with ingredients that there's no room for things to cook properly, so the gel fueled flame's only purpose is to keep things warm. That being said, I guess what attracts customers the most is their competitive price as a hot pot. If you want to get a hot pot for less than $20, your options are probably limited to Boiling Point, and food court hot pot.
It's a shame Chicken Winner's signature dish is such a trouble to enjoy. You need to have either extremely high tolerance to spicy food or superhuman patience so you don't accidentally ingest sharp chicken bones. The 3 of us came here and ordered 4 dishes which came to $30 per person. This price is more than fair for the quality of food and the exciting varieties of spiciness. We would definitely recommend it as long as you don't order the Stir Fry Diced Chicken With Chili and Pepper signature dish.
Comebuy's fresh milk tea costs $6.20 with pearls, which is a little lower than average. The tea has an interesting flavour and everything in the cup feels refreshing. It was a little odd that the staff blended my milk tea with ice before serving, but I guess it was to cut the ice into smaller pieces. Comebuy offers a simple cup of refreshment and it makes me want to go back for more. I will stop making fun of the name.
Fragrance's salted egg fish skin cost $7.99 for a small bag. I think this is more expensive than Stip’s Chips Salted Egg Potato Chips, but it is reasonable because we are comparing fish skin to potato chips. Texture-wise, they are both crispy thin that tastes salty. The fish skin adds more flavour, but it's less sweet. They are both quite good, but the subtle flavour difference caters to different foodies.
Tanlu Grill gave me a dining experience I have never had before. The thoughtful open grill made flaming grill possible. Different parts of the beef have different texture so you can order to your liking. The high-quality beef comes with a premium in cost. Our visit cost us $75 per person. I think it's expensive but expected because of the meat quality and slow turnover rate. I think Tanlu Grill is a premium restaurant perfect for treating important friends who love barbeque, but not suitable for daily consumption.
Most of the large tea in Coco is in the range of $5 to $6. My 3 guys cost $6.40 because of the toppings. Coco's large size drink uses the long and narrow deceiving cup. It is because of this, I prefer Chatime over Coco. All prejudice aside, Coco's drink has a good flavour. They are not aiming to be the top of the line bubble tea place, but they are the good enough tea shop when it's convenient to you.
