Summary

My added spam was the most enjoyable part of the Nongshim Korean Clay Pot Ramyun. The ramyun does live up to its name for being chewy after being soaked in hot water for 5 minutes. However, the taste wasn’t that memorable. When I see the word “clay pot”, I was expecting Korean specialty hot sauce and a bit of sweetness from caramelized ingredients. Unfortunately, none of which was present. The Nongshim Korean Clay Pot Ramyun has got the texture, but the taste is 2 stars at best.

Chinese noodle in Korean Ramyun disguise

Nongshim is a Korean brand. Although this product is made in China, it doesn’t make this cup noodle less authentic. Notice the subtle difference that Nongshim uses the word “Ramyun” to indicate authentic as Korean cuisine, rather than the more commonly known “ramen” or “noodle” which denotes Japanese and Chinese respectively.

Thoughtful to include utensil

The bowl includes a cake of dried noodles, 2 seasoning packets, and a small fork. The red packet is for the soup base and the white packet is for dried garnish. I admire the thoughtful gesture for giving out utensils. With just a few cents of production cost, Nongshim made this bowl of noodle enjoyable outside of our homes.

What’s inside the cup

Like many cup noodles, there is a water fill line on both the inside and outside of the cup. This is part of the quality control for consistent taste. If you follow the instruction carefully, you should be able to achieve similar result every time.

How we cooked it

The best way to cook instant noodles is to cook them properly in a pot with seasoning and additional ingredients then enjoy it in a bowl. Since the noodle is already in a cup and the most accurate way to replicate the taste most people experience is to pour water in and wait with the lid closed for 5 minutes. To my surprise, the color and fragrant was quite appetizing.
