Minus Cake Boutique

Food Quality
Atmosphere / Services
Reasonable Priced
Summary

Minus Cake Boutique makes really good cakes and drinks. Having a cake on top of the drink is a new concept we have not seen before. The combo makes cakes and drink cheaper by $0.50, but it is still very expensive. We would really recommend Minus Cake Boutique, but it is more of a place for special occasion rather than our default go-to cake shop.

Minus Cake Boutique started by selling beautiful custom cakes on WeChat. We have been ordering cakes from Minus Cake for many years so we are really excited to see the grand opening of their physical location on Kingsway near Boundary Road in Vancouver.

Strength: Beautiful cake, Creative, tasty desserts that’s not too rich.

Weakness: Very expensive.

Other Dessert places

Peach Oolong Cake Roll $28 (half)

The Peach Oolong Cake Roll is a simple version to a Swiss cake roll with a twist. There is only 1 layer of sponge cake on the outside, and the entire center is filled with delicious flavoured whipped cream. On the outside, there is a layer of crust decorated with macadamia nuts and flower petals. There is really no complains on the taste. The cake is spongy, and the oolong flavoured cream is mixed with fresh peach chunks. The entire roll feels very delicate with perfectly balanced flavour profile.

Earl Grey Toasted Milk Cake with Honeycomb Dalgona Latte $13

The Earl Grey Toasted Milk Cake combo with Honeycomb Dalgona Latte cost $13. It would have cost $6 for the drink and $7.5 for the cake, and the combo slashed $0.50 off. The honeycomb dalgona latte, like you would expect, taste like whipped instant coffee. The drink is somewhat refreshing, but leans towards a dessert rather than a drink.

Earl Grey Toasted Milk Cake $7.5

The Earl Grey Toasted Milk Cake sits beautifully atop the minus cup. There’s definitely a lot less toppings than shown on the menu, however I don’t think I would have enjoyed this cake as much if this is overpowered by all the toppings. This is a very simple cake layered with sponge cake and earl grey flavoured whipped cream. There are a lot of cream with bits of tea leaves, but they feel very light. Eating the whole cake does not leave an oily texture on the tongue. I highly recommend this cake.

Vanilla Osmanthus Lychee Cake with Osmanthus Pear Juice with Basil Seeds $14

The Vanilla Osmanthus Lychee Cake with Osmanthus Pear Juice with Basil Seeds combo is a lot more refreshing compared to their dalgona latte counterpart. The acidity of lychee and pear juice makes this combo light and refreshing. I really enjoyed the texture of the slippery basil seeds with the sweet pear juice. It is not as heavy as tapioca and make me wanting to drink more until I finished the whole cup.

Vanilla Osmanthus Lychee Cake $7.95

The vanilla osmanthus lychee cake has a bit of dried flour as the topping. This faint fragrance do come through because the flavour of lychee and vanilla are not too strong. I am surprised to see the size of these lychee chunks hidden inside the cake. I enjoyed this cake because of the complex texture.
