Summary

Fragrance’s salted egg fish skin cost $7.99 for a small bag. I think this is more expensive than Stip’s Chips Salted Egg Potato Chips, but it is reasonable because we are comparing fish skin to potato chips. Texture-wise, they are both crispy thin that tastes salty. The fish skin adds more flavour, but it’s less sweet. They are both quite good, but the subtle flavour difference caters to different foodies.

Summary

The salted egg fish skin produced by Fragrance of Singapore is the second salted egg dessert we came across recently. Our first salted egg packaged desserts were the Stip’s Chips Salted Egg Potato Chips. The rich salty sweetness flavour was unique to all the chips I’ve ever had, so I quickly grabbed a bag of this salted egg fish skin as soon as I saw it at the T&T Supermarket in Metrotown.

Strength: The taste of fish skin combined flawlessly with salted egg

Weakness: Very expensive for a small bag that’s just 1/4 full

Fragrance Salted Egg Fish Skin Packaging

Fragrance’s Salted Egg fish skin takes on yellow and orange color to go with the salted egg. Aside from the product name in the middle, they put “Super Addictive” and “Baked” logo on the packaging.

Back of the packaging

On the back of the bag, we can see the nutrition facts showing 25% of saturated fat. This is similar to the Stip’s Chips Salted Egg dessert. There is also a label to show the product is made of real salted egg.

It also comes in numbing and spicy flavour.

We saw the alternative flavour being the spicy version but thought to just try the original one because a small bag of this already cost $7.99. I will consider this if the original flavour tastes really good.

Opening the bag of chips

The bag has an air-lock seal similar to a zip-lock bag so you don’t have to finish the entire bag in one sitting. However, the amount of content inside is quite disappointing. I think there’s only approximately 1/4 of the bag that’s filled with salted egg fish skin.

Taking a closer look inside

There are two sides to the baked fish skin. The exterior side looks darker. They look reasonably seasoned.

Crispy fish skin

The salted egg powder doesn’t rub off easily like the ones on potato chips. I think the baked fish skin has lots of crevices to hold the seasoning. The flavour of fish skin combined very well with salted egg yolk and they enhanced each other. I like how the fish’s skin doesn’t taste greasy. Also, they are dehydrated enough to feel crispy and easy to chew.
