Summary

Passion8 Dessert Cafe makes really well presented bingsoo. This is Mr. Choco Brown, basically chocolate bingsoo. There is a scoop of chocolate ice cream with a small piece of pastry as its hat. Also, there’s two small oreo cookie act as the ears, and a small M&M as the nose. The bingsoo is served in tin can, which is an interesting choice. Unfortunately the outside the bowl is covered with chocolate syrup. It’s not very pleasant to touch. Their most famous dish is their Real Tiramisu bingsoo.

Passion8 Dessert Cafe is a contemporary Korean cafe that focus on serving bingsoo and espresso. We came across some photos of it on Instagram, and the photos shows really well presented bingsoo. It is located in a convenient location on Cambie near 14th.

Passion8 Dessert Cafe is located right on Cambie, but it has a small 3-car parking lot right in front. The majority of time it’s full, but it’s nice to have the option to park really close. It is worth mentioning that the store is facing West. This is unfortunate they had to put blinds in front of their store, unable to showcase their interior space to attract more customers. Also, the West sun makes the store’s quite warm in the afternoon.

Contemporary Interior

Passion8 Dessert Cafe’s interior look contemporary. Modern materials make the interior look quite clean. Immediately after I walked in I noticed the space is quite warm at 3pm. There is a small portable air conditioning unit at the barn door, but the cooling is very hard to keep up. We were greeted by the staff. She told us to order at the counter before taking the seat. We paid for tips regardless. This is Korean dessert cafe tradition. They will deliver the dessert to our table after. Like most dessert places in town, there is a water station where you can get free lemon infused water.

Maximum Stay When Busy

Passion8 Dessert Cafe Bingsoo Maximum Stay

There is a rule for maximum 1.5hr stay per table. This is completely fair. A bowl of bingsoo takes about 10 minutes to finish. Adding the 10 minutes for making it and bring it to your table, that’s 20 minutes. Heck, lets say it takes 30 minutes for you to finish your bingsoo from beginning to end. They are giving customers an hour on top of that. So I think it’s totally fair. Also, for you larger groups of people out there. Please be considerate. If you see the store is full and customer waiting, let other people enjoy some bingsoo too.

The top layer is chocolate cookie powder, with some brownies at the edge. The chocolate cookie powders are fluffy and full of chocolate flavor. The brownies are dense and rich. It’s good to alternate the textures with the brownies.

Digging down to the very bottom at the very beginning. It’s layered with chocolate cookie powder, milk bingsoo, lots of chocolate chips, chocolate bingsoo. There are lots of chocolate chips after the milk bingsoo. It provided surprise in every bite. However, getting to the chocolate bingsoo layer I realized the bingsoo are mushy. Because of the metal container and the warm interior temperature, the bingsoo melted really fast.

604 Food Critic Assessment

The bingsoo at Passion8 Dessert Cafe are tasty. Alternating texture and varying level of sweetness kept things interesting. For $13.50 a bowl, this thoughtfully designed bingsoo presentation worth every penny. A recommendation to the owner is to provide better shading/cooling in store. Until then, we advise customers to visit this place when the weather is not as hot (but that kind of defeats the purpose of going for bingsoo, doesn’t it?).
