Summary

Pepper Lunch is a Japanese fast food franchise specializing in serving rice and raw meat on a hot plate to be cooked at your table. The iron plate is very hot, and retains just enough heat for you to thoroughly cook the meat. Two bottles of sauces will be provided so either the food tastes good or bad, is entirely up to you.

When the food is served, you can find a piece of paper with cooking instruction wrapped around the food.It serves the purpose of blocking sizzling oil to get onto your cloths, also creates a barrier so the customers are less likely to burn themselves.

Their serving speed is very fast, you order from the front desk, and right after you are done, you will be directed to your table with table number on it.

The serving plate is not your typical rectangular plate. They are hexagonal shaped with triangular notches at the two corners further away from you. These notches creates space for your drinks, either you’re dining by yourself, or with a friend.

Industrial revolution in restaurant

The restaurant is setup very systematically. Every table has a number stand. Customers were to enter the restaurant and order from the front counter. After ordering, you will be told which table number to go to. It is very often to see your drinks already on the table when you arrive. Your food will arrive within 5 minutes of seating.

The concept is well thought out, really. The whole idea is to get the customers in, and out as fast as possible to increase the turn over rate. They put the cashier near the entrance so there will be no contemplating on what to order at your table. Then, they put the raw food to be cooked at your table to increase efficiency and flexibility in the kitchen. Everything works, except the space does not feel like a restaurant.

Down side

The space did not feel welcome to me like most Japanese restaurants do. It is very awkward to occupy a table after you’ve finished your food.

Depending on the food you order, they can range from $11 to $30. This place is not cheap. And no, Pepper Lunch does not just serve lunch, they open until 9pm to also serve dinner.
