Chef Liu Kitchen Taiwanese beef noodle in Richmond
Chef Liu Kitchen is a nice little stand in the food court. The cost of their food at $13 per person is considered average in 2019. They have certainly got the taste aspect down, but the food lack the finer details. This restaurant is perfect for customers not in pursue for superb food. Everything here is good, but not extraordinary. It’s “good enough” if you’re not picky.
Chef Liu Kitchen serves one of the most authentic Taiwanese flavoured beef noodle soup in metro Vancouver. They have been praised among many Taiwanese foodies so we figured to give it a try. I agree on the authentic flavour part, but the noodle’s texture is extremely lacking for me. Chef Liu Kitchen is located close to Peanut’s Bubble Tea tucked in the food court of Richmond Public Market.
Strength: Authentic Taiwanese flavour
Weakness: Thick chicken filet batter. Noodles too soft

All rice meals comes with 3 sides
Chef Liu Kitchen doesn’t just serve beef noodles. You can also find many of the traditional Taiwanese dish such as popcorn chicken on rice, deep-fried pork shop combo, Taiwanese sausages on rice, etc. As long as you order a rice dish, you can pick 3 sides on display. The flexibility and sense of value adds to the feeling of authenticity.
Beautifully presented beef noodle
We ordered the spicy beef noodle. It has good flavor. The spiciness made the back of my head feel tingle and numb. After I had the beef noodle I am sweating like a waterfall. I see why so many Taiwanese praise the flavour of Chef Liu Kitchen. Unfortunately the noodles are machine-made, rather than the good hand-made type. They were borderline soggy.
Poor cuts but well cooked
The beef does not have the best cut. It was cooked quite thoroughly so the beef is as tender as it can be. However it is still a little tough.
Deep-fried Chicken Fillet
My chicken fillet looks big when they arrived. It is cut into 4 large pieces of chicken. The interior is relatively juicy, but fully cooked. This is quite impressive given the thickness. You can taste a bit of alcohol in their seasoning.
Batter is too thick
The chicken fillet has a very thick batter. The thick exterior batter soaked up a lot of oil resulting a greasy aftertaste. I would appreciate a cleaner texture, but they probably need to spend more money on cleaner deep-frying oil. Also on the batter, it is so thick to the point of chewy. Chef Liu Kitchen’s deep-fry menu can benefit from using half the amount of batter.
