Summary

Pannekoek are like pancakes without leavening agents. Their texture is similar to French crepes without the crispiness. We don’t typically go for Dutch-style brunch but Angelina’s Dutch Corner definitely gave us a positive experience. It is a little expensive close to $20 per person with drink, but the large portion definitely make up for the expense. For my savory pannekoek, the hollandaise sauce did a lot of heavy lifting to keep things interesting.

Summary

We came to Angelina’s Dutch Corner near the New Westminster waterfront right before our movie at Landmark Cinemas 10. The building Angelina’s Dutch Corner is located in has a similar atmosphere with Granville Island and Longsdale Quey. There are many arts and crafts with specialty shops. Angelina’s Dutch Corner is a family-run restaurant that provides shoppers with a homestyle Dutch recipe.

Strength: Dutch pancake (Pannenkoeken) was really well made. Hollandaise sauce was one of the best I’ve tried.
Weakness: Parking was difficult to find with construction.

We came on a rainy day and tried to search for Angelina’s Dutch Corner from within the mall. It took us a while to find it at a secluded corner. Even with the sandwich board welcome sign, we were only able to find them based on the yellow door with their logo on them. There was a large window next to the door, and it allows customers to look directly into the kitchen.

The consistent interior space

Everything in Angelina’s Dutch Corner seems to have a hint of yellow. It reminds me of both egg yolks and hollandaise sauce. The interior space looks clean and cozy. Soon after we entered, we realized there is a water-facing outdoor patio for days with better weather.

The table setup

Angelina’s Dutch Kitchen has a pretty standard table set up for a brunch place. There is a set of napkin-wrapped utensils and the required condiments arrived without us having to ask for them. The coffee I ordered come with both milk and creamers in a small container, and the staff came to refill them without me asking for it.

Big Pannekoek has a huge portion

The Big Pannekoek cost $18 and comes with roasted baby potatoes, ham, bacon, sausage, bratwurst, eggs, and hollandaise sauce. It’s packed with food to food a small family of 3. The pannekoek is the Dutch’s version of the pancake. Instead of the fluffy American pancakes we are used to, the pannekoek is thin and largely spread out. The textures are a little more wet to keep my mouth moist, which I really appreciate. All the ingredients are laid out on the pannekoek, so you can’t avoid cutting the pancake. Don’t worry though, at the point, the plate is your playground. On a side note, the hollandaise is warm and very flavourful, which made this dish a lot more enjoyable.

Mixed Berries & Whipped Cream

We also ordered a sweet version of the pannekoek as dessert. This $14 dish features lots of whipped cream and fresh berries. The sliced strawberries along with other berries were coated with a layer of icing sugar which gave this dish the superb presentation. We particularly enjoyed their house-made berry jam.
