You probably have no idea what to expect when you see the heading about Sutah Ramen, but you probably have heard about Samyang. Well, you should. Samyang is the manufacturer who brought us the popular spicy instant noodle with a fire-breathing chicken in front of the packaging. I’m sure you know what I’m talking about if you can eat spicy food. This Sutah ramen is their version of chewy ramen, and they are proud of the chewiness they have achieved. We bought this package of noodles in the T&T Supermarket in Metrotown.
Strength: Spicy chewy ramen ready to eat in 4 minutes at home.
Weakness: Soup flavour was spicy but a little monotone

Sutah Ramen packaging
Samyang’s Sutah Ramen uses black and red as the main color on the packaging. Each pack includes 5 of these smaller individual packagings. The image in front features an unrealistic amount of toppings in their bowl of noodles. The Korean characters indicate the origin of this product (even though Ramen is supposed to be from Japan). There are “chewy” texts on the packaging to tell you what to look for in their noodles.
What’s inside the individual packaging
The interior is very simple. We have the dried noodles, a packet of soup base, and a packet of dried flakes.
Cooking directions at the back
I like how they put the expiry date at an easily noticeable location. You cannot miss it when reading the cooking direction. It’s not rocket science. Simply use 500ml of water and cook for 4 minutes to get the intended noodle texture.
How the ramen tasted
I considered adding an egg and other things to my ramen, but I didn’t want the drop of water temperature to get in the way of noodle reaching the designed chewiness. This bowl of ramen practically followed the cooking direction to the letter. The result is the best chewy noodle I have had from pre-packaged noodles. The soup base was only a little spicy which can be enjoyed by many. Other than the spicy flavour, this is a pretty boring bowl of ramen. I have expected a more complex flavour. My next bowl would be made with a lot more toppings.
604 Food Critic Assessment
Samyang’s Sutah Ramen is pretty cheap at $4.97 for a package of 5. That’s only a little more expensive than $1 per package after tax. I like the texture of their noodle, which is clearly advertised on the packaging. The spicy flavour is good but the soup base is a little boring. I would recommend this ramen for people who enjoy the chewy texture of noodles. It’s a luxury to be able to enjoy this at home. I would probably try to make my own soup base though.
