Old Xian’s Food (老西安厨娘子) in Crystal Mall

Xi’An, the capital city of many dynasties of China. It is considered the Northern part of China so the cuisine is heavy on noodles and buns. Another characteristic of Xi’An food is that the food are not delicate they tend to be large portion of food that are mostly oily, spicy, and salty. When done right, Xi’An food can be a very delicious carb fest.

Strength: Located conveniently in the Crystal Mall food court.

Weakness: Very poor food quality

Lamb Fried Noodle has no lamb

I ordered the lamb fried noodle but was disappointed to see that there are less than 10 lamb bits in there. The noodles are as wide as 3 inches but the texture are too soft. There were more veggies than the noodles. I thought I have ordered veggie fried noodle instead.

Rougamo (Pork Burger) is a disaster

Rougamo is a signature cuisine of Xi’An food. The quality of rougamo is a direct reflection of how good a Xi’An restaurant really is. The rougamo at Old Xian’s Food is the worst I have had. Worst of all, they know what a good rougamo should look like, but did not put in the required care. The picture on the right is a picture from Old Xian’s Food website showing what rougamo (pork burger) should look like, and the picture on the left is what they really delivers. This is a huge false advertisement. The pork was not chopped properly, there are large pieces of lean meat or pork fat in the buns. You could be biting into a piece of very dry meat or a mouthful of fat. There is no consistency in each bite. This is such a disaster.

604 Food Critic Assessment

I have not tried other Old Xian’s Food location, but Old Xian’s Food’s Crystal Mall branch really should not be operating. Their food quality received a 1-star review because we don’t have the option to give 0 star. The noodle has poor texture, mediocre taste, and they skimp out on the meat. On the other hand, the rougamo is just so bad that it should not even exist. You can really see the minimal care they put into their food. We have nothing against this restaurant chain, but the poor quality of the food served at their Crystal mall location is simply unbelievable. We do not recommend Old Xian’s Food.
