Myst Asian Fusion, Taiwanese Restaurant in Burnaby

MYST Asian Fusion Restaurant is a full-service restaurant with a comprehensive menu. Even though they label themselves as Asian Fusion, they are actually a Taiwanese restaurant. I like Myst because even when they call themselves fusion, they don’t serve anything they are not good at. For example, you will not see ramen or sushi here. Regardless of them calling themselves “fusion”, everything you see on the menu is quite authentic. Myst is located on Kingsway near Gilley Avenue, Burnaby.

Stregnth: Authentic Taiwanese taste, fast serving speed

Weakness: Limited parking

Myst Front Counter

The first thing you see after you enter is the neon blue bar behind the neon pink colored cashier. There is always a plush toy next to the cashier. I have seen toy cow. This time it’s a unicorn.

Myst Oriental elements

To the left side of the entrance, there is an oriental partition. There is a waiting area on one side and a small dining area on the other.

Dining Area is bright

Myst Dining Area

This is the main dining area with high ceiling. The horizontal dark-colored columns made space seem modern. You can also see the partition all the way to the staff’s neck height. These high partitions make the seats feel more private.

Taiwanese Sausage and Marinated Pork with Rice

Myst Taiwanese Sausage and Marinated Pork with Rice $11.95

The Taiwanese sausage and marinated pork with rice are loaded with toppings. Marinated pork on rice is a Taiwanese traditional cheap eat. This is like a deluxe version of that, adding eggs and Taiwanese sausages. These sausages are sweet and savory. Marinated pork contains lots of flavour. When it gets too greasy the sauerkraut can help reset the palate.

Traditional Railway Bento with Grilled chicken leg, pork chops, Taiwanese Sausage

Myst Traditional Railway Bento with Grilled Chicken Leg, Pork Chops, Taiwanese Sausage $16.25

The traditional railway bento is the lunchbox set sold on the trains in Taiwan. This one sold at MYST contains grilled boneless chicken leg, deep-fried pork chop, and sausage. It also has fermented cucumber and daikon. The grilled chicken has a wonderful smoky flavour. Deep-fried pork shop is very tender.

604 Food Critic Assessment

MYST has a pretty high price point at $20 per person. Their food is quite authentic, and the speed of bringing the orders to the table is very fast. All the dishes I have ordered have a good portion. I would definitely recommend MYST if you have not tried it yet.
