Mean Poutine Vancouver Downtown

Have you been to a club and find yourself hungry on Granville Street after midnight? Mean Poutine has been in business for the past decade opening until 4am on Friday and Saturday to serve the hungry late night party animals. It has become a local icon for poutine. It is one of those stores that everyone has heard of but not necessarily have tried. Unfortunately, we are one of those people, and finally decided to pay them a visit. Mean Poutine is located on Nelson Street, near Granville Street Downtown Vancouver.

Strength: Large portion to fill you up. Opens late on weekends.

Weakness: Not enough cheese curds.

Storefront with pick up window

Mean Poutine has a small storefront serving order and pickup customers. There isn’t an interior space so customers have to occupy the street while waiting. Large menu is posted on the wall so customers can decide what they want while they wait. The store owner is very friendly. It is worth mentioning that Mean Poutine also serves hot dogs.

Mean Supreme $12

We ordered the Mean Supreme which includes crispy fries, brown gravy, fresh cheese curds, shredded certified angus roast beef, double smoked bacon bits, grilled onions & peppers and mushrooms. I regret my order the moment I received it because there is simply too much toppings for me to enjoy my poutine. Luckily, the fries was crispy with the brown gravy being thick and flavourful. The cheese curds was a bit squeaky to prove its authenticity, but there was simply not enough of them. I would have enjoyed my poutine much more if there wasn’t so much toppings to distract myself from the basic poutine. However, I might be tired of the taste a lot quicker.

Mean Poutine is not a fancy joint but they got the essentials of a good poutine down. They serve large portioned poutine with an affordable price of $8. I wish I had ordered the basic poutine instead of the Mean Supreme which has too much toppings. That way I could really know how much fresh cheese curds they put in each order. Perhaps that is something I will find out on my next visit.
