Donair Spot Lebanese Restaurant in Vancouver

The donair spot is one of the best Lebanese restaurants I have been to that is hiding in plain sight on West Broadway. The Donair Spot has been here for a while, but I only came here because my friend was preaching their platter to me last week. They serve falafel, shawarma, and gyros here. It’s a perfect place to grab a quick bite. Donair Spot is located on West Broadway near Yukon Street, Vancouver.

Strength: Fast serving time. High-quality food

Weakness: Street food presentation may not be for everyone

It has an awning with yellow background which is pretty much the same as any other donair places in town. I didn’t expect much when coming here, but beneath that modest and conventional front, they serve really good food here.

Through the take out window, you can see the shawarma pole with meat stacked in a cone-like shape waiting to be cut into thin slices.

I was overwhelmed when I enter the Donair Spot. The ordering counter is to my right with the menu above. There were two customers behind me so I was a bit rushed to make my decision. Luckily my friend recommended the platter with half lamb and half chicken. The store owner was very quick in asking questions to get my order ready.

Narrow corridor to the back

I was a bit disoriented because I am familiar with Lebanese food and this store’s ordering ritual. The owner came after I sat down at one of the seats along the left wall to ask me how his food tasted when the store got less busy. We got to chatting, and he is actually a very friendly guy when there is no

Next to the front counter there are areas for the sides and sauces. It’s kind of like subway, but the veggies here are very fresh.

Half Lamb Half Chicken Platter

My platter came with salad, hummus as sides and Basmati rice below the meat. It is served in a styrofoam container. I grabbed a spoon and a fork, then onto enjoying my lunch. The salad was simple lettuce, tomato and cucumber. They are crispy and refreshing, I can taste how fresh it is.

The lamb was very thinly sliced. They are very tender and juicy with lots of flavor. The juice flows the Basmati rice to make them moist. Of course, the mouthwatering sauce on top also contributed to that.

I find the chicken a little dry with a hard crust. I think it worked pretty well to have two types of meat. It provided alternative texture, but I probably wouldn’t order the chicken again. The lamb worked much better for me.

The Donair Spot may seem like much from the front, and I haven’t come to this place because of that. After trying them, I realized they serve one of the better Lebanese food around Vancouver. Even some of the more fancy Lebanese restaurants around town. The food quality is very good here for $12 a platter. They also keep you full for a long time. I would definitely come here again, and I recommend anyone who wants to try Lebanese food to come here as well.
