Dessert Dynasty bubble tea shop next to Metrotown T&T Supermarket

If you have been to the Burnaby T&T Supermarket in Metrotown, you probably have seen Dessert Dynasty. Like me, you probably have considered getting a drink from them before and some of you might even have had their drinks before going into the supermarket next door. Dessert Dynasty is a Cantonese bubble tea shop. This is very obvious from their dessert items.

Strength: Convenient location near T&T’s entrance

Weakness: Expensive drinks, mediocre taste, average service

Bubble tea shop in a mall

Dessert Dynasty is located right next to the T&T Supermarket’s entrance. The only time I thought of buying anything from here is if I felt thirsty before going into the supermarket.

The store name is a little misleading

You may think Dessert Dynasty is a dessert shop by looking at its name. The menu item is 90% bubble tea. The desserts you can find here are basically bubble waffle and Cantonese curry fish balls.

Coffee convenience station

What surprised me was the coffee station in the front. There must be a lot of people ordering coffee for them to place this in the front counter as a permanent item in the store.

Syrups indicate artificial flavouring

Dessert Dynasty has been opened for a while. It seems like they have not caught on to the new healthy bubble tea trend. Everything in the store seems to be made using artificial flavouring, which used to be how every bubble tea shop makes their drinks.

Passion fruit green tea $5.25

I think $5.25 is a little high for artificial flavour mixed drinks. The drink has a good flavour similar to Peanut’s Bubble Tea in Richmond Public Market. Aside from the passion fruit syrup, my tea has a little astringent undertone.

604 Food Critic Assessment

I understand the location probably cost a lot more than a stall in Richmond Public Market, but $5.25 can almost buy me two $2.75 drinks from Peanut’s Bubble Tea. When the drinks here don’t even taste as good, I can’t justify coming here. Dessert Dynasty feels like a bubble tea shop who just hoard a good location to make a quick buck.
