We are sure that you must have heard about the Brown Sugar Milk Tea Boba Ice Cream Bar hype last summer, but did you know that there is now salted egg yolk flavoured ice cream bar? We recently found these ice cream bars from Achino popping up in various Asian supermarkets like T&T and Sun Given. Achino is a subsidiary company of ShuangYe Foods Co. from Taiwan. This company has been in business since 1956, and their product should have a certain degree of excellence.
Strength: Noticeable salted egg yolk flavour.
Weakness: Flavours are not evenly distributed, and the boba is too hard.

Achino salted egg yolk boba ice bar packaging
The yellow box is definitely attention grabbing among the frozen desserts in the supermarket display. In fact, this is how we noticed this new item on shelf. It stood out from the crowd, and we haven’t tried salted yolk ice cream, so we grabbed it.
Individual packaging
Each box consists 4 of these 80g ice cream bars. They are individually packaged so you can keep the remaining ice cream bars fresh.
Lop-sided ice cream bar
The slanted ice cream bar surprised me when I pulled it out of the plastic sleeve. I have never seen an ice cream bar this lop-sided while keeping the exterior profile in-tact. It was probably melted and re-frozen during transportation.
Salted Egg only on the outside
At the first bite, I really felt the sturdiness of this hard ice cream bar. I bit through 3 boba, and they are frozen harder than the ice cream. The yellow salted egg yolk seems to be only present on the exterior of the bar.
Boba is very hard to the bite
These boba are evenly distributed, and there are lots of them throughout. Unlike the Brown Sugar Milk Tea Boba Ice Cream Bar having soft and chewy boba, these boba are hard. It makes me feel like I am eating Boba bar with bits of ice cream. Half way through the bar, the salted yolks are still only present on the outside of the bar.
More salted egg yolk flavour at the bottom
There are significantly more salted egg yolk towards the bottom of the bar. It is perhaps the salted egg yolk mixture has less density, and flows to the top when the ice cream bar were cast up-side down. At this point, the fragrance of the salted egg yolk is very dominant. I really wish that the flavour is more evenly distributed.
604 Food Critic Assessment
Considering Archino is following the footstep of the Brown Sugar Milk Tea Boba Ice Cream Bar, we do not think this salted egg yolk & boba ice cream bar did well. Aside from the salted egg yolk flavour being unevenly distributed which made the flavour inconsistent, the boba’s texture also wasn’t very pleasant. It’s true that this is still a tasty ice cream bar which gives you a sweet and savory alternating taste. We just expected more for a $2 per pop ice cream bar.
