Rainbow Cafe Fresh Fruit Juice & Bubble Tea is located in the food court of Parker Place in Richmond. It has been around for more than 20 years. The store does not look like much. Some may even consider it messy. It is run by an old couple. Most of the time, you will see their friends sitting on the chair outside chatting with them.
Although the place has “Fresh Fruit Juice & Bubble Tea” right below their logo, those are not their best product. They specialize in bubble waffle and has been really good at it for at least 20 years.
Right behind the counter you see 3 bubble waffle machines with a jug of batter. Bubble waffle taste best when it’s crunchy on the outside, so it take some time to let cool. The store owner will only make have one already made. If there is more than 1 customer, then you might have to wait a couple of minutes.
A bubble waffle cost $4.25 here, but it’s really worth it. You can see the bubble waffle being cooled with an electric fan. If there’s one with a darker color, always pick that one because it’s a good indication that it’s more crunchy. This is my personal preference. You might enjoy chewier one that tastes more like cake.
After cooling, the bubble waffle is served in a paper bag. It’s a bag of snacks that’s really fun to enjoy. It’s really crispy, so I can break a piece off with only 1 hand. My friends will never know how much is left in your bag.
Come here for bubble waffle, not the service
I know a lot of people say they don’t have good service. Well, I didn’t like their attitude a while back either. When I thought about it, I’m demanding service at a food court? Now, that is a little ridiculous. Are we complaining about the atmosphere not being romantic enough next? No, they make bubble waffle really well. Come here, trade your money for a good snack, and be on your way.
604 Food Critic Assessment
Rainbow Cafe in Parker Place has become an iconic location for bubble waffle over the years. I would always come here to get a bag of snack whenever I come to Richmond. For $4.25, it is a little expensive, but the quality is there so I don’t mind it. With a calories intake perspective, might as well go for the one that taste the best when I’m eating sugar and carbs.
